1. Origin South East Asia. New Guinea, Solomons. Phillipines. World Heritage Areas of North Queensland.
2. Description: Large hardwood tree(40m). When first cut the hardwood is Orange Brown but it darkens with age to Brown or Red Brown. Grain is variable but is usually interlocked and wavy

3. Uses Framing, decking, stairs, furniture, turnery, panelling, joinery, shop fittings, cabinet making, parquet flooring, carving, veneer, counter and bench tops, boat building, vats, musical instruments, bowls and tool handles. Durable species for exterior use.
4. Working Properties ( various authorities comments)
* Hard ( rate 2 on a 6 class scale).
* May blunt cutting tools so reduce 20 degrees when cutting quarter sawn face.
* Turns well
* Tends to split unless pre bored but holds fastenings well
* Glues satisfactorily except with casein glues.
* Takes paint, stain and polish well but gum bleeding may affect the finish.
