1. Origin South East Asia. South West Pacific
2. Description: Pink to light Red and light in weight. Texture coarse but with even interlocked grain.

3. Uses Very popular utility - type timber being suitable for furniture manufacture, interior finishing, panelling, moulding and skirting.
4. Working Properties ( various authorities comments)
* Easy to saw and produces a smooth planed surface.
* "Thirsty" surface due to open - grained characteristic. Grain filling sometimes necessary.
* Dries rapidly without degrade.
* Suitable only for use under cover.
* Turns well.
* Many timbers are called "Meranti" and there is much variation between the various Shorea species.
