1. Origin Equatorial West Africa.
2. Description: Compares so favourably with Teak ( strength, durability and stability) that it is frequently used as a substitute and earned itself the nickname "Poor Mans Teak". Interlocked or irregular grain, coarse even texture. Light Golden to Dark Brown. Less immediately attractive than Teak Weight
3. Uses Boat building, joinery, cabinet work and furniture ( particularly outdoor), carving, laboratory bench tops ( even containers for radioactive materials).
4. Working Properties ( various authorities comments)
* Can be difficult to work if mineral deposits are present.
* Otherwise the working properties are satisfactory though the interlocked grain will require care in dressing.
* Glues satisfactorily.
* Pre boring for nails needed at board ends.
