1. Origin South East Asia (particularly Bruma). Also now plantation grown.
2. Description: Medium to tall hard wood. One of the most famous and well known of world timbers. Golden in colour with Grey Brown/ Red Brown streaks. Straight grained.

3. Uses Flooring, decking, framing, cladding, lining, turnery, parquetry, furniture ( interior and garden) and carving. Best known for its long established use in boat building industry. ( VIZ - decking, rails, bulwarks, hatches, weather doors and planking .
4. Working Properties ( various authorities comments)
* Firm ( rated 4 on a 6 class scale).
* Works well with moderate ease ( the presence of silica in some stock severely blunts cutting edge)
* Pre-boring recommended when nailing.
* Holds nails and screws well.
* Glues well if surface prepared, as surface has oily nature.
