AFRICAN ROSEWOOD

( Padauk)

 

1. Origin :                               Central and West Tropical African

 

2. Description:                      Vivid Blood Red toning down to Dark Purple Brown with Red

                                                   streaks on exposure. Grain  straight to interlocked with

                                                   moderately coarse texture.

3. Uses                                     High class joinery, furniture and cabinet making. Tuning

                                                  and wood carving.

 

4. Working 

     Properties      ( various authorities comments)

 

                                                   *   Very durable and resistant to decay ( A closely related

                                                        species was used  to construct Sir.

   

                                                   *   Alex Rose's yacht " The Lively Lady" for his single

                                                       handed  circumnavigation of the Globe).

 

                                                   *   Quite strong. Despite weight it nails, screws and glues

                                                        well, producing an excellent finish.

 

                                                   *   Extremely stable timber.
