2. Description: Rich Dark Red Brown. Extremely hard heavy species. Very

durable. Moderately coarse texture and even, wavy

interlocked grain sometimes produces attractive fiddle

back figure

construction, sleeper, shingles, weatherboards, joists,

flooring, high quality indoor furniture, turnery and outdoor

flooring.

Properties ( various authorities comments)

* World famous for its combination of strength, durability

and beauty, often used for boat work

* Rated 2 on o 6 class hardness scale. Resists decay when

fully exposed to the weather and in contact with the

ground.

* Machines and turns well. A planer blade angle of 15

degrees gives best surface quality

* Appearance can be marred by gum veins and pockets
