1. Origin                           South East Asia Pacific

2. Description:                  A rare and expensive species. Extremely dense, mostly, 

                                                  straight grained but may be irregular or wave. Fine even

                                                  texture Dark Brown to Black with Light Brown streaks

3. Uses                            Used in the finest cabinet and inlay work. Turning, brush

                                                  backs,  walking sticks, musical instruments, billiard cue

                                                  butts and the sapwood is used for  tool handles

     Properties   ( various authorities comments)

                                                    * Very difficult to work

                                                    * Extreme blunting of cutters

                                                    * Per bore for nailing

                                                    * Unsuitable for gluing

                                                    * Accepts finishes very well

                                                    * Very expensive

                        Thickness:                1.5"  to   4" ( 38mm  to 100mm )
