1. Origin                           Malaysia and New Caledonia

2. Description:                  Straight grained Pink Brown to Red Brown hardwood

                                                     which produces the much sought after Durian fruit 

                                                     (not necessarily to universal taste!)

3. Uses:                              Light construction, furniture joinery and panelling.

                                                     Treated  Durian  is used for doors and window frames

    Properties  ( various authorities comments)

                                                * Rate firm ( 4 on 6 class hardness scale)

                                                * Machines well although turning produces a slightly rough

                                                   surface

                                                * Nails and glues well.

                                                * Readily accepts paint stain and polish.

                                                * Texture medium to coarse.

                                                * Non durable without treatment.
