1. Origin :                       North Queensland

2. Description:               Dark brown to chocolate shades, deepening to almost black

                                               Porous and coarse grained

3. Uses                                  High quality furniture, cabinet making, carving, turnery

                                                and joinery.

4. Working

   Properties     ( various authorities comments)  

                                                *  Hard heavy wood. Poor steam bending.  

                                                *  Moderate blunting effect on cutting tools.  

                                                *  Nailing and screwing satisfactory and can be stained or

                                                   polished to an excellent finish.  

                                                *  Gum veins are unavoidable.

                                               *  Durable. Because of high insulation resistance used  for

                                                  switchboards.

                                                *  Celebrated for its dark and mellow hues. Used in panelling

                                                   and furniture.  

                                                *   Becoming rare sources are in World Heritage areas.
